I want to start doing my own programming, help me buy what I all need!
I have a laptop to use but what cable and what programs do I all need? With my current mods I have a pcmforless tune but I feel theres room for improvement. Also I may want to change gears very soon here and I dont want to have to send away the pcm. Thanks

http://akmcables.com/
for the pcm interface cable.

for scanning and logging
http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/do_tc.html
for tuning, need $EE definition file
or I'd also highly suggest LT1 Edit if you want to throw a bit more money at it. I'm cheap lol (not saying Tunercat is cheap, usability wise it is great, but it does cost less).

for tuning, LT1 Edit... the mailing list and peer support for LT1 Edit is awesome. If you use Tunercat and use the LT1Edit mailling list then you will have to use some common sense on what tables relate to what tables between the two programs.
And
http://lt1edit.com/
just a lot of time on the LT1Edit mailing list, and related Internet searches for the knowlege on what and how to change.
