I have some questions about LT1_edit

I'm new to the world of tuning, so I'm planning on keeping an eye on this forum and taking in as much as I can. I have a track event coming up on April 19th, and I thought of maybe adding some new bolt ons, maybe a HOTcam or something. Then it occured to me that I should just optimize what I already have, and later on when I get the cam and heads I'll already have the tuning software. I do have some questions before I order the software and get started.

1) The million dollar question!!! How much power do you think I could gain with a good tune. Mods are in sig. I'll be using a laptop, going slow, and eventually putting the car on a dyno with a wideband. I'll also have the help of someone that knows how to tune Fords, so I guess we'll both be learning this, but he already knows the basics.

2) I have heard of an LT1_edit mailing list?? Or some sort of thing you sign up on for information about the software and tuning. Is this worth it?

3) Will I be able to tune the car diferently for WOT and part throttle?? The reason I ask is I would like to tune my part throttle settings to get good gas mileage. 17 mpg isn't cutting it anymore since gas it $1.79 a gallon here

4) When I go full throttle, I see some black smoke coming out the tailpipe, I know it's not oil, because the car uses no oil at all. I was wondering what kinda A/F ratio these things run stock.

5) Also, and tips, advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. And also where do I need to order the software from and how much is it going to set me back?? Know where I can get any wiring schematics for the cable?? My buddy is going to make it, his job is in IT, and he builds a lot of circuit boards and has seen a diagram of it before, I just can't remember where it is.

Thanks,
John

I have the LT1 editand like the way it works.I would do as much reading as possible. Check out www.diy-efi.org ,http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/foru...?s=&forumid=16 (it is not 4th gen but alot of good info) http://www.schube.com/lt1edit/

1.You might be able to get a few more HP out it.
2.Good info , read all you can
3.Yes you can tune part throttle and WOT but you have to be carefull of what you are doing
4.GM tune these cars to run rich up top to help fight dentonation
5.READ ALOT before you do anything.Get a good datalogger like http://www.ttspowersystems.com/dm_dload.htm http://www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/ecu_software.htm You can find the schematics at www.akmcables.com or you can get the cable from him.The software comes from www.carputing.com

Thanks for the help!!

I see they offer a scan tool, and a logging scan tool. Apparently since they charge for the logging one that is the one I need??

I would try the one from http://www.ttspowersystems.com/dm_dload.htm or http://www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/ecu_software.htm as they are easier to make sense of the data.Plus the datamaster will let you play back the run you made. You can also export the the data to a spreadsheet later if you want.

Datamaster is well worth the money IMO, can't tune without it.

Since the poster has a 95 though, they are going to be looking at OBD I items.

I use Tunercat, and Freescan along with Excel. I dont much like Datamaster unfortunately. The visuals during logging is sort of nice, but most everything else about it I dont like, and just prefer Freescan. I then use the raw data and Excel together.
