I hate paying the dealer $90 for a scan

Can someone help me out, when my ses light comes on i hate going 2 the dealership and paying close to $100 so they can tell me whats wrong. What is a good scanning tool that will read codes, and also im on a budget so what do they go for? I have seen some at kragen and autozone will these work on my car? Has anyone tried these before?

I think Autozone still scans for free. Find out which DTC's (trouble codes) and let us know. How does the car drive? Did you change a part or something or did the SES light just come on?
I'm not sure about scanners for LT1's since I've never owned an LT1. I use tuning software and a laptop for my LS1.

Here ya go: www.autocheckup.net You can get an OBDI scanner for less than the dealer is charging for a scan. You need the GM XP240 or the one at the of the page if there is an OBDII car in the family. Be sure to email and ask if the correct cable for the '95 comes with the tool. Autozone can't scan a '95.

I picked up an Actron 9145 for $170 after rebate, and it will handle all OBD-II's, and has add-on (extra cost) individual cables for OBD-I GM, Ford and Chrysler.
