How tunable is TBI?

I'm looking to do an engine swap into a Jeep. I have a 350 TBI in my 91 Suburban, it runs great but the truck itself is about rotted beyond repair. It would make for a great swap but I wonder if its worth it? I'd like to get a little more power out of it perhaps with a cam and P/P heads or something. I'm deffinatly not looking for 400hp or anything but in the 300hp (flywheel) area would be nice. Is this possible? Can a TBI be tuned to allow for that? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I know nothing about TBI so I want to make sure my goals can be met before ripping into it.

Thanks,
Craig

Re: How tunable is TBI?

I think the most i've ever seen out of a TBI on the dyno has been like 280rwhp. They just aren't the most productive setup for making power. You can make a good bit of torque with them.

Becareful to what you do with them also. The tables in your typical TBI ECM have very low resolution and run a bit slower. This makes the TBI hard to tune radical setups for unless your there in person really working it.

Put port fuel injection on it and run a GM 730 ECM and your golden.
