How to reflash a new PCM???

I just bought a used PCM from an M6 for my 94 A4 Z28 and since I will be doing an M6 conversion I though this will be the easiest to do. My question is I already have an LT1Edit for my car which is programmed for my A4 car, Will I be able to still read the M6 PCM if swapped in my car and back-up the data thats on the M6 PCM?

Is my car going to have problems if I straight out just swap the PCM given the VIN# is different and will my car not run because of it? What is the best way to approach this problem???

Could I somehow dump the *.bin file from my A4 PCm unto the M6 PCM which will overwrite the VIN# from my A4 to the M6???

Please help!!! I'm so confused here......

Thanks.

Man I really had a hard time understanding what you're trying to do..... I read twice too.

Not sure if this is what you asked, but you will not be able to use your lt1_edit on the M6 PCM unless you get an upgrade ($50) from carputing for the other PCM. You will be able to read it with their free reading utility, but you won't be able to program it.
What you can do though is read the M6 PCM and program your A4 with the M6 program. (the PCMs are the same, just the program differs)

I don't know if this is what you meant though...

EDIT: If you just swap PCMs, you won't have any problems. The car doesn't car what VIN you have in it. It's there for reference only.

LOL Madwolf.... I re-read my original post and that got me confused as well!!!! LOL

If I go with the upgrade ($50) from carputing will I be able to program both PCM then??? See, I would like to have the PCm as a back-up incase I fry the orig one or If down the line I decide to sell the car I can put one PCM in and sell the other packaged with the laptop and cable???

I was originally going to copy (read) the PCM and dump the info unto my A4 PCM but in order to do this I will have to swap the PCM out correct??? I read somewhere here you can read a PCM without having it plugged in the car??? not sure if this is a correct info but that would be ideal......

Which prgram can I use to read and extract the data from the M6 file and store it away incase I wanted to re-flash it back to that same PCM???

thanks for your help... hoipe this time I didnt confused you....

With the $50 upgrade you will be able to program both of them, you are correct. And if you fry both, you know who to contact, right?

To reprogram the other PCM you will have to swap them unless you have a custom made harness which allows you to program it outside of the car.

Here's Carputing's tool for reading the program.
