how to get PCM out of speed density mode

For the last week I've been driving w/o a MAF, and it's been running dog rich. Today I finally installed the maf again and the car seems to run exactly the same as when it was in speed density. I'm begining to think even with the maf hooked up, I'm still in sd mode.

My question is do I have to program the pcm to go back to using the maf? I would think it would do it by itself but I could be wrong. At WOT, my A/F is about 8
