help me understand computers
help me understand computers
first off im by far a mechanic BUT computers kill me..... understand what they do and what all the sensors do but its the part where you go into a program and you see all kinds of numbers and what not that i just cant understand for some odd reason.
so the info im trying to get here is.... with my new setup (in sig) that should make around 650-700 RWHP would it be wise to go with a aftermarket ECU of keep the stock PCM and force myself to learn it? which one is easier to work with/easier to learn?
if i was to go with a aftermarkey ECU such as fast or bs3 is there any online places to learn more about these systems and what all i NEED to buy and work? how do i choose the best for my application? i can find all kinds of stull on LT1 edit but just noting on aftermarket ecus...
setup:
383 long block - all forged
heads - LE2 with 3 angle valve job 2.00/1.56 valves
induction - TC76, 58mm TB, ported intake
fuel - dual pump intake, 60lb injectors
cam - forget specs (spec sheet not around right now) but its high 500s and 115 LSA
plan to run around 12-15 lbs
pretty much im just trying to learn about ECUs

I plan on doing the same thing. When my wallet can keep up with my mind. Your choice of aftermarket ECU's is a good one. There are several companies that make them. After you find the names, go to the company website AND do searches for articles at car mag's web sites as well.
One suggestion I have and it is the way I will approach this is. Put the fuel management on an engine that is working correctly FIRST. Like a stock automobile. Then move it to the modified engine.
Ask for suggestions for ECU's and why they like them. Plenty of folks use them here.
