Help me set my shift points in TunerCat

Guys, I cannot for the life of me get my car programmed to shift at 6000rpm.

I've messed with the Kickdown normal RPM threshold, the shift @mph, etc...... This thing is still going passed the 6k mark all the way up to 6375 banging the limiter then shifting.

I do not have the OBD1 high stall shift problem, I have the lack of TC experience problem.

Thanks

Having a 93, I don't have the electronic trans. I have not had to tune a 4L60E after a stall, so I don't know the sure fix, but just looking at TC I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Have you tried the "Performance Up/Down Shift Points" table? and
"Normal Up/Down Shift Points"? or the "Kick Down Up/Down Shift Points"???

Those are the only tables I would think you'd have to edit. The best and easiest way to modify the tables would be by percentage.

Good luck and let me know how it goes. One more thing, it's important to make sure you have the current version of the DEF file. Saves you alot of headaches.

The shift occurs when both the rpm and the mph conditions are met. You need to change all tables. I set the rpm on the low side and use the mph table for moving the shift points. This is the most reliable method. Kickdown mode was set by %throttle I think. Performance mode was just on some Firebird models.

I'm sorry, still new to TC, I thought Kickdown mode was the table that asks for MPH? Do I have to set the TPS% table as well or just the RPM Threshold and kickdown mode?

I will check tonight and get all the table names correct before I respond. I don't have the tunercat software at work.

kickdown just refers to what gear the tranny will 'kickdown' to at WOT according to mph. use these values for kickdown up/down shift tables

1-2 34
2-3 68
3-4 112
2-1 28
3-2 60
4-3 104

these should be optimum for your 342's

what heppening is you car is reaching the rev limit but has not yet reached the mph in your kickdown tables. Both rpm and mph must be met before the shift occurs.

I forgot to look up table names last night. The mph is going to be dependant on what rear end gear you have. The car shifts more reliably using mph tables and setting rpm shift points a few hundred rpm low. Kickdown mode is the WOT shift points and WOT is set by one of the constants based on a percent of throttle position if I remember right. You will have to change the upshift mph slowly and then find a out of the way place to get from first to third gear while logging transmission data.

Did you get your shifts right? I finally looked up the table names. You want to open the ECM constants table and set the kickdown mode enable and disable tps threshholds. I had mine at 52 disable and 60 enable but 52/53 would be as good. Then set the kickdown normal mode shift rpm thresholds and the kickdown hot mode shift rpm threshholds all to 5400. Then set the kickdown mode and hot kickdown mode shift points to the mph you hit 6000 or whatever on your logs. You will have to experiment a little. 35 67 110 should be a safe start for upshifts with the 3.42 rear.

Yes, got them, thank you!

I'm in dire need of a shift kit though. It's taking anywhere from 400-700 rpm to complete the shifts BLEH

New best today of 13.20 though!!

Still need to figure out my weird RPM 'miss' as i'm accelerating though. Really strange.
