Angry Camshaft position Sensor

Around 51K, the tach on my car started doing this thing where it would quit working and the needle went down to zero RPM even though the engine ran fine. (Then after a few seconds or minutes, the tach would start working like normal again) The SES light came on, the trouble code was for the camshaft position sensor(CPS). The car ran fine with this part on the fritz, I drove it about a 1000 miles before I had it fixed. The CPS was replaced to the tune of $400 for the parts and the labor(had to pull off the intake manifold). The car now has 56K on it and it started doing the same thing with the tach last week, it was scanned with the same code, and my mechanic said the CPS was under warranty, but his labor was not. So I am highly p!ssed off that I am going to have to shell out more $$$ for the same problem again.

Have any of you guys ever had problems with the CPS? Could I have another problem that is causing the CPS to fail I need some help before I take the car in again. I think my mechanic might be screwing me over because he did an afwul job repairing the brakes on my sister's car, and we had the A/C compressor replaced last summer on her car and he has had to fix it another two times for the compressor not coming on.
