I've decided to change my ethernet card. So I went and bought another... installed it but it couldn't find the drivers (there were none in the box!). So, I then re-installed the old card but I can't get back online anymore!

I'm running through a router with my brothers pc being the "host".

now, whenever I try to run ANYTHING that needs to go online... it gives me a "illegal aperation" message

I don't find it funny!

Please help!!!

 

Sounds like drivers dude. I know your probably already thinking this, but go to your friends computer and download some up to date drivers for the new one and use it. If you copied all your network settings and internet settings down before you tryed this, then you should be able to set them accordingly and get online. I know how discouraging networking can be. Does you computer even connect to the other computer? Common sense says that you computer must at least connect to that one to make it online, so check it out

What OS are you using? What kind of NIC card is it? Did you check to make sure it shows up properly in Device Manager? Maybe with a little more info...we can help.

 

windoze98, the nic card is a realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC

it does show up and it does say that the device is working properly.

From my pc I can't connect to my brothers pc, but it works the other way around
