Having trouble with laptop cable

I finally got my cable from WOT yesterday. I hooked it up to the car and the laptop and no information is being sent. Is it my laptop or am I missing something?

I connected the orange wire on the car to the red wire on the cable and the black/white wire on the car to the black wire on the cable. I did not solder or crimp them but I still should get some sort of signal right? This makes me think the laptop is not setup correctly. What should I do?

BTW I have a 95transam with the OBDII style connector, tunercat, freescan and Datamaster. Give me some advice please.

How do you have it set up? Is the com port set up on the laptop? On all of those programs you have to hit some sort of button to start the logging or reading...Just making sure you have done this also...

Go through my serial port troubleshooting document at http://www.akmcables.com/serial.doc

99.9% of the time, it's not the cable, but a configuration issue with the laptop - or something in software interfering with the COM port connection.

Good luck,

Andrew

Hey guys, ok, I plugged in a mouse to the serial port and it works fine. So I know the port itself is working.

I took the cable apart and noticed that the black and red wires are soldered to the 5th and 8th pins. I have the 16 pin ALDL connector. Do I have the correct cable?

Is it possible that my ALDL port on my car is faulty, is there a way to test?
