Good Diagnostic Equipment ?

Hey Everyone,

I just registred as a member after having hung around the site for years as a reader. My question is: which readily available diagnostic equipment (under $700) is the best for viewing trouble codes and sensor information ? I've heard of PC software that allows you to view this info with the aid of a special cable that connects to the ALDL. Is this a good approach, or should I look to buy a dedicated scanner ? In the past, I've borrowed equipment from friends who are professional techs, but I would really like to acquire my own gear. I would also like a tool that is compatible with both OBD1 and OBD2.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or thoughts.

Check this out.

http://autoxray.com/products.aspx

It comes with graphics software, but only on the 6000 model.

You can still purchase the graphics software for the other models if you go for the lower numbers. Only the 6000 model test the new CAN protocol. This Scanner is for Pros so it maybe overkill if you use it for just one car but the price is right there with your request.
