FAST dual wideband mod
FAST dual wideband mod
Getting the car ready for the summer decided to mod the annoying FAST wideband that you have to enter the menus to control the ouput for narrowband to the factory computer everytime you start the car. It ended up being very easy. We programmed an atmel chip with the button press sequences and soldered five wires in the unit. Now when we turn the ignition on the settings get entered automatically by the chip. If anyone needs help or info let me know

We also built a simple circuit to convert the 5 volt tach signal from the PCM to 12v to hook up the Aeromotive Fuel pump controller. They suggest 2 tach signal converters in the manual that cost $90. We built it for about $2.00

Added LED's to show button presses

Re: FAST dual wideband mod
Thanks kevin, I thought I read that other people were complaining about the fact that the FAST controller lost it's settings every time you booted it, figured someone else might be interested.
Re: FAST dual wideband mod
Maybe I'm being thick today, but what exactly are you using the simulated narrow band outputs for? I am guessing so you can just leave the wide band plugged in without having nb02's installed. Does it actually oscillate and not cause tuning issues? I'm just trying to figure out the advantage.
Have you tried contacting the guys at fast and telling them what a pain in the *** this is? They are generally pretty receptive to suggested improvements. Maybe try posting on the cpgnation forum about it.

Re: FAST dual wideband mod
The fast unit is a permanent gauge in the car, and the narrowband output feeds the factory computer. I have kooks headers on order and will probably weld a second set of bungs in for both sets of O2 sensors in the future but for now I use the narrowband output all the time. As far as the ouput for narrowband, it's not simulated like fake, it's the wideband data interpreted to narrowband output, the factory computer learns properly and the BLM counts have been accurate. I adjusted the MAF tables according to the BLM's and the car runs great.
As for calling Fast, I read it was asked and they said the product is what it is. In the ads and reviews they hyped the narrowband output and show the unit installed in cars, but when you get it, it has a cigarette lighter plug and no memory of its last settings when power leaves. So if you leave it in the car you have to hook it to an ignition source not constant. Apparently it was really designed to just be a temporary tuning tool that you can move from car to car.
Anyway the mod cost about $5.00 in parts and 5 easy solder connections. Sometimes it is just easier to do things yourself to have it work today and not wait years for a new product that might never come. I also figured other people have hooked it up permanently and have the same frustration reentering the parameters everytime you turn the key on. I've learned so much on these forums I just wanted to share something I've done.
