Fans Temp

I have just got a cable from Ruse electronics so I can plug in my laptop.

I have a 160 stat fitted and I want to change the temprature at which my fans cut in.

I have Freescan and PCComm and PCread.
What temps would you recommend I set and how do I do this using these programs, or do I need other software preferably free stuff!
( I don't really want to spend loads of money doing this as I only got the cable to read fault codes and change the fans temp etc.)

The first thing the cable told me was code 48 MAF Mass air sensor failiure, I am working on getting a replacement ( I am in the UK so stuff takes a while to arrive here from the USA)

Well none of the free programs have programming features. You will need tunercat or lt1 edit. Most people will recommend tunercat because its cheaper, not locked to 1 vin # and its just as good as lt1edit. www.tunercat.com

Before you jump to the conclusion that the MAF sensor is bad, check the pink wire on the harness connector to insure you are getting +12V. That wire has been known to fail.

Thanks for that I will check it soon.

I am glad you have replied because I have a question you may be able to answer. My car started hestitating a month ago, so I changed the Plugs and then the plug wires. Then I changed one o2 sensor ( couldn't get the other MTF off) no change( by now the car was running so bad I had to park it up it was backfiring bucking pinning and would hardly run).
I then went the whole hog and changed the opitspark and hesitation gone. ( I supected opti right from the start after reading posts on this board, but I thought I would replace the cheaper stuff first)

My cable arrived from the USA and I connected the laptop and got the code 48. Everything else looks ok

My question is the car changes to speed density when the Maf is bad so is this why my car has black sooty spark plugs evertime I look at them. I've had the car since Oct last year and it's always run rich.

I must add that the car feels stronger now than at any other time apart from a few miles to the gallon less you wouldn't no anything was wrong with it!

Edit (I have just checked the pink wire it has 12 volts)

I used DataMaster to see what the coolant temp stayed around during normal driving then added 10 degrees to that for the fans.

I have the trial version of Datamaster it gives you 20 recordings then you have to buy the licence can I do it using that?

If so how is it done?
