Question extending oxygen sensor wires

I wanted to know has anyone cut and spliced their wires to make them reach the new locations after a longtube header install? will it affect anything? i know that it'll add some resistance but so will extensions. so will it be a bad choice?

there like 25 a piece and i think i need two or three i have an obd 2 computer so i have 4 sensors. so thats $50 -$75 plus shipping spent on something else like a stut tower brace. i wanted to know because cutting and adding wire is relatively free.

its a 1997 ws6 trans am. i just put a hotcam kit, coated lt headers, electric water pump, taylor ovc wires, cloyes true roller timing chain, heads got rebuilt with a performance valve job. i aslo got the computer tuned by madz28. i spent a lot of money i still need to get the y-pipe made i also have high flow cats (2). i live in california so i want to pass smog i can go to a shop that'll turn their back on the headers since i have all the emissions. i wanted to know if i can save a little.

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires

When I put my Long Tube Headers on, there Jet Hot, they didn't provide the extention cables. When I called them up they recommended three options, use the extra excess wire that is in the harness, not going to happen, buy the extentions, or do what you want to do in splicing the wire and doing it yourself. With that being said, you should be able to splice the wire and do it that way if interested in saving some money, personally though I still would get the extentions and do it right, but thats just my .02

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires

DO NOT, DO NOT and again DO NOT SPLICE THE O2 WIRES!
Get extensions!

Did I mention not to splice the wires?

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires

FYI,

O2 sensor wires are Stainless Steel, so they can not be soldered with convention lead tin.

You would have to use Silver solder. Or crimp the wires together.

Also the O2 sensors breathe through the gap between the wire and the insulation. So soldering can melt the insulation and cause problems.

Best off with the extension harness or extending the existing wiring, not the part attached to the O2 sensor.

How many extensions would you need for pacesetter LT's on a '00 LS1?

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires

I made my own extensions.
No problems.
Buying extensions is not that expensive and are much easier but I wanted to see if it could be done.....it can.
