Why? The reason I ask is because I have always heard that as long as you splice the 4 wire signal wires that go to the pcm and not the two wires that come from certain 02 sensors into the connector you would be fine.
Re: extending oxygen sensor wires
My pacesetters did not come with extensions they only came with a bunch of wire and wire connectors so I spliced mine and the car ran like crap until I bought new O2s and the extensions so a word to the wise the extenders might be a little overpriced but if you splice you O2s and it runs like crap now you have to buy a new set of O2s and the extenders!
Re: extending oxygen sensor wires
Mine got burnt by my passenger side header. So I bought a new GM connector and spliced them into good parts of the original wire. When I scanned the car, they look like they are acting normal. I soldered the wires together. This wasn't an example of extending them. I didn't see any other choice besides a new harness. Not an option. I also fixed my knock sensor error code. I had a bunch of wires melted together. Is there a reason not to splice the o2 wires? But I did not use any of over the counter run of the mill wire, only the wire that the new GM connector came with. The list price for one connector was 29.00 but since my dad worked for a trucking company, we got it for 19.00. After I soldered to the old wire, they were nice a solid together.

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires
Buy the extentions. I will give you a story as to why you should, on top of giving you advice.
I conducted a test at work (i'm a generator mechanic in the army) to prove how splicing is a last resort. I ran two air conditioning units (exactly the same model, both at the same temperature and same speed) off of two of the same generators except with how i hooked them up. one of them was directly connected to the generator and the other a/c went through a splice that i made (crimped and soldered). The air conditioner that was directly hooked up to the generator pulled 2.5 Kw from the generator. the air conditioner that was hooked up through the splice pulled 3.4 Kw.
bottom line, splicing makes resistance, resistance = bad. Yes, you could splice it yourself, you check engine like would go off, but the signals from your o2 sensors would not be as accurate as they could be.

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires
Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice. As the wires got melted together. I bought a connector from GM. There was no choice but to splice, but atleast it was with the wire and connector GM supplied. So I spliced these 2 to the factory harness using solder. I'm pulling the motor anyways for low oil pressure this afternoon.

Re: extending oxygen sensor wires
well i just extended mine 3 days ago by doing the pacesetter recommended way(using wire provided) and the car runs like crap. guess i need to spend more time on the forum. should i buy new oxygen sensors. does the wire come with it so that there is no more splicing? or could i reconnect the original wires where i cut them and then get extensions?
