I just recently got the Hot Cam Kit installed in my car. Ever since the headers and cam kit have gone in, I have been running really rich, u can smell the fuel that the car is spitting! I plan on getting it Dyno Tuned at www.ls1speed.com . However, this is rather costly for tuning ($400). Is this type of tuning worth the money? Or am i better off using a www.pcmforless.com tuning or Ed Wright for the money? The hypertech has become pretty much worthless and i'm looking to ditch that thing quick. Please share ur thoughts and opinions, thanx all.

 

dyno tune is generally only for WOT tuning. if you are running rich during normal engine opportation then you should probably ask Bryan at pcmforless.com for a little help. his tune is a lot cheaper than dyno tune anyway and you might find it fixing most of your problems to the point you wouldnt need any other tuning.

 

Most chassis dynos are equipped with a brake and can be helpful in part throttle tuning. However, road testing is also needed. You can learn a lot from the data obtained by driving around and logging the data stream.

Before you assume you are running way rich, I would get a hold of Autotap and log some info. Run your car "rich for 3 weeks and give the PCM a chance to figure out what you just did to your car. I know a lot of people remove their cats when they put headers on and they think they are rich because they smell gas. Cats usually mask that smell. ATAP data is a sure fire way to know where you are. I strongly recommend (if you have time) getting your own edit program and learning how to use it. Their are many people who can help you out on the boards. Dyno-Tuning is great, and we have a great shop here in Jax, but the price is typically 175 an hour for tuning. If you tune your car twice in your life you will have paid off the edit program. Are you planning on leaving the current heads, cam, and intake on your car? Forever? If not, you will need to tune your car another time down the road. Dyno-tuning is more worthwhile if you are running a big N20 setup or forced induction. With those, you want it just right, and it takes many hours on the dyno.

 

Without looking at your BLMs etc you can only make so many assumptions about the car, grab Freescan and hook up your cable and off to town you go.

I did some of my part throttle AFR checking on the dyno as well, but I ran an open loop program, for you its "easier" because all you have to do is look at your BLMs.

 

There are quite a few Hotcam files available on the net. You could try one of those.
