DTC 34 map sensor low

So this is the second time i had this code come up, i changed the MAP sensor like a year ago maybe 2 and it was fine, but yesterday it came back. Whenever i was stopped and started to take off the car would almost die, it was like no fuel was getting into the engine. Maybe its bad wiring? help!

thanks

Re: DTC 34 map sensor low

That code sets when the PCM detects a very low voltage, indicating a vacuum higher than the engine can produce. Could be a short in the system. Have you checked the MAP harness connector? They seem to dry out and crumble over time, producing erratic MAP readings. The PCM is basing the spark advance and the long term fuel corrections on the MAP reading, so if the signal is bad, it's going to affect the way the engine runs.

I have no way of telling what year your car is but in a 94 for example, the code sets when MAP drops below 16kPa. At idle, that's about 1/2 of the value you would expect to see. When the code sets, the PCM defaults to calculating MAP from throttle position and engine RPM.

If your car is a 93, the impact is even more severe, because MAP is a key component of the speed-density calculation for fueling the engine.

Why not add the year of your car to your signature?
