Diagnostic Scanner

My check engine light is on and I had a complete tune-up done on my car. New optispark unit, plugs and wires.

Car runs perfectly fine, I just want to be able so see why this light is on. It doesn't flash, just solid.

I am looking for a diagnostic scanner that will work on my 97 Z-28, anyone have any ideas.

Thank You!

Re: Diagnostic Scanner

Harbor Freight has a code (only) scanner for $50.

Im a big fan of the 'drive-to-autozone-use-theirs-for-free' method

Re: Diagnostic Scanner

With Autozone, you are only getting trouble codes pulled, not a scan. And, they only do '96 and newer.

Try:

Some of the free software packages were pretty good and you can drive around and watch everything in real time. I ran mine on a number of friends cars, and one 96 CAN truck for fun. Worked like a Ginzu knife - cleared a code for EGR and then looked at the freeze frame data when it got set again after a little driving.
