Computer tuned with bad TB,fixed now car runs rich.Questions.....
I had my car tuned last month and I made a boo-boo.When the car was tuned the throttle cable adjustment had come loose and when the gas pedal was pushed down the TB only opened about 3/4 of the way.So this is where the TB was when my car was tuned. So I went to do the bump-stop mod and found out that the gas pedal only opened the throttle to 3.2 volts but the bump-stop was showing 4.59 when the TB was opened by hand.My question is,will re-setting the computer let it learn the new amount of air coming in at full throttle or do I need to make the 4 1/2 hour drive again for a tune? Thanks guys, and remember to check that the throttle is opening all the way the next time your car feels a little sluggish!
It's not a matter of knowing "the new amount of air coming in at full throttle".... the PCM gets that info directly from the MAF sensor. Its the other things that the TPS affects that you have to be concerned about. A partly closed throttle reduces manifold absolute pressure (MAP) so all the "lookup" tables that depend on MAP were not operating at the correct postion.... the most obvious would be ignition timing. Another item that would be affected would be the target A/F ratio for power enrichment (PE) mode. Probably more things that we aren't even aware of.
What kind of HP levels are we talking here? The 8.1 1/8-mile would appear to indicate you are about 375flywheel... is that the setup you were tuning? Suprisingly, without heads and cam I wouldn't expect the air flow to increase a whole lot between 75% and 100% throttle position, so its sort of a tossup whether the tune is any good. Why not ask the person who tuned it for his opinion?

I am going back next month for a free re-tune,I was just trying to find an interim fix. I did not know that about the sensors. The dyno I was on to tune added the weight of the car to the equation and I put down 300rwhp with a 3200 stall converter. There were problems with the car when I had the tune done though, bent pushrods and a VERY dirty top-end not the least. The tuner is Jeff Creech (aka the Milkman) and seems to know exactly what he was doing. When the car was on the dyno it was smoking when the throttle was let off and was spiking at the top end.We thought it was bent pushrods and maybe bad valve seals so I bought a set of ported/polished heads.I then got back home and did some work to my car:
-Changed pushrods
-Cleaned top end
-Changed PCV valve
-Changed fuel filter
-Did the catch-can PCV mod
After I did those things I took my car to the track and it ran perfect,no smoke at all with the throttle at 3/4.But when I fixed the throttle cable to open the TB all the way it ran so rich that I smoked all the way down the track.I am HOPEFULLY getting my heads/cam package in by the middle of April so I can drive the 4 1/2 hours again for a tune. That way any of the problems I had will hopefully be fixed....
