You need to have the computer flashed with a M6 program. If you don't have the cable and program to do it you can take his car to a dealer and they can do it.

The A4 program is probably activating the reverse lockout or skipshift solenoids at the wrong times causing the shifting problems. The A4 and M6 programs use some of the same pin outs but for different things.

Also, you will have problems with the knock sensor because the 96+ cars used a knock sensor with different impedence.

The speedo will be way off. The M6 puts out 17 pulses/rev, the A4 puts our 40 pulses/rev. The speedo in the car that has an M6 tranny with an A4 PCM will read 25 MPH at a true 60 MPH. You will also have numerous codes for the missing A4 components.... look at Shoebox's code list.

http://shbox.com/1/Dtcs.htm

The M6 will not get the "skip shift" signal, which is no problem at all. It will also not get the reverse lockout signal, meaning he will have to strongarm the shift lever hard to get it into reverse.

The idle speed will also be screwed up, since the A4 is programmed to idle at 550 RPM in gear, and the M6 is programmed to idle at 800 RPM.

Since both PCM's appear to be from 94's, the knock sensor is a non-issue.

That's right. Apparently I thought it said '96 m6'. Thanks for the correction.

The b13 pin out is for the 3-2 solenoid in the auto program and is for the skip shift solenoid in the m6 program. He said he was having shifting problems so it seems logical that the skip shift solenoid being activated at the wrong time by the auto program could cause shifting problems.

In any case the solution is to have a m6 program flashed into the a4 computer.
