this makes no sence to me, if its only used for 20 seconds, why does it turn off, the o2s havent come it yet becuase there not hot enough and the pcm hasnt timed out for closed loop, why would it need the ve tables for 20 sec, that dont make sence.
i tell you what raise your ve table across the board to 70% and watch how it runs on bottom end and and watch the blms go full rich, then when you get into the upper rpms it will go lean according to the blms.
or do this the next time your at the track go in the ve tables and from 85 map to 100 raise the ve to 100% and watch what your et looks like, it will so rich you will pour black smoke out the back.
do the test yourself
not aurguing. are you willing to give your tuners number out.

I know that you can change the A/F ratio with MAF tables in closed loop.
PE is considered open loop and is only for WOT, does it not use VE then?
When really is VE used then?
Do MAF table changes effect WOT?

Re: Changing AF in Open Loop?
I am basicly new to DIY tuning I only have about 3 real months of piddling under my belt. Ive been trying to do a true tune on my car and have had good results with changing MAF tables and adjusting timing in small increments keeping an eye on knock.
It really helps to know where and when you need to make the changes..lol.
I have Datamaster and VE master. Is VE master reliable?
Now let me make some statements to see if I am correct.
(all in tunercat EE)
1. "% change to AFR vs RPM at WOT " will use the "VE vs RPM vs MAP" table and "MAF" tables as well.
2. "MAF" tables are used at all times closed or open loop.
3. "open loop AFR vs coolant temp vs MAP" is stricly open loop SD mode.

2. Correct
3. SD mode is only used when the MAF sensor is not functioning at all. The PCM knowing the amount of air entering the motor is essential for the motor to run at all so in the case the MAF sensor fails, speed density(this is where the VE tables come into play) mode will be enabled so you are not stranded.. its a fail safe.
