Basic scan and tune

I am new to this forum and am looking for some basic advice. I have never done anything to the ECM on my car. The car has been tuned by a local dyno shop (CAM) and runs great. But I would like to learn more about scanning and tuning myself.
Are there any good documents that describe the operation and paramaters of the ECM?
What software do you recommend to scan and tune? Cables? Anything else needed?
Thanks.

For tuning, I like TunerCat's C.A.T.S. software. For OBD1/LT1 (1993-1995 LT1) it can be had for less then $100. You can get a cable for about the same amount from Andrew at akmcables.com

I hear people talking about Freescan as a datalogger for OBD1/LT1. I've never used it, though.

Some searches on thie forum and on the 'net should yield you general information about tuning, etc. If you have specific questions I'd be glad to help

This is a good starting place:

The FAQ itself is moderately useful, but it links to several of the most useful sites to read.

You can also google "LT1 tuning" and you'll find a number of good pages.
