Anyone using an EMP-10 to reprogram thier Flash chips... Questions inside...

Anyone using an EMP-10 to reprogram their Flash chips when they lose the Flash? I just got an EMP-10 and was wondering if I need a special socket to program these Flash chips in the EMP-10. I've socketed my PCM so there easily removable. Whats the quick and dirty on how this setup works and what I need to do to reflash each chip? New to this end of it. After using the EMP-10 software to reflash, are the chips ready to reinstall in my PCM and then accept my program, or do I need to do other programming to the Flash chips before reinstalling them in the PCM. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

roguedriver The EMP-10 may not support the device you are using. The EMP-10 is a lower cost programmer, the device support list is very limited. You may have to upgrade to EMP-30 or something of this nature in order for it to be able to read/write to the "chip" you are using. Also most programmers are setup for DIP configuration. So you will need an "adapter" to program and read the chip. I am not sure what package you are working with but most LT1 flash chips are PLCC. The LS1 PCM's utilize a TSOP package. so you would need either a:

1. PLCC----->DIP adapter
2. TSOP----->DIP adapter

Maybe this helps out.......Kevin

Thanks...

Thanks Kevin. The EMP-10 will support the flash chip I need to flash. It's in the list of supported devices. What I don't have is that adapter and thats what I wanted to know about. I'll have to pick one up. Thanks.

Sorry to bother you, with a reply to an old post, but I'm looking for the software for the EMP-10 programmer. I have an EMP-10, but can't find the software I had. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

this might be useless info, but I used a Willem programmer off ebay, $24.

Do you have the chip images? I have OBDI T and E images, 64K each.

I have the DOS EMP-10 software. Email me at andrew at akmcables dot com and I will hook you up. My EMP-10 is still fully functional and I still use it.
