Anyone Have A Good Tune For A 396 LT1 They Can Share?
Well, it's been a long time coming but, I'm nearing the completion of my 396 stroker engine build for my '97 Z28, and, since I have converted the car to OBD I and have TunerCat ....... I'm thinking of taking a shot at tuning this thing myself. Anyone have a pretty good "tune" they could share for a 12.5:1 static compression 396 LT1, that I could use for at least a starting point?
Hoping to get the car to run on 93 octane unleaded gas for the street, and a 96-98 octane race fuel "blend" for that occasional trip to the dragstrip. Anyone have a tune for this type of street/strip setup, that they could share? I also will be upgrading to Ford SVO "green top" 42lb/hr injectors on this engine, as well as going to long tube headers and a 3" true dual exhaust from what's shown in my signature.
TIA for all replies!

Just "edited" my "old" signature to better reflect the new 396 stroker engine re-build upgrades.

Okay, it's been over a month now, and apparently nobody's got a good tune for a NA 396 LT1, soooooooo ...... how about a 383 NA tune (that I could use as a starting point). Any naturally aspirated 383 owners out there that have a good tune on their cars that ...... they would be willing to share???

We kind of touched on this in the thread on the ABS/TCS. The only people who come here any more are old timers with a new problem, and new/newbie LT1 owners. The old timers get the help, disappear, and don’t come back to help others unless they have a new problem of their own.
I'm here every day. About a half dozen others pop in from time to time. The site Administrator signed in once in 2020, after being absent for 2-1/2 years. There's just not a lot of people here that have a 396 or a 383.... AND do their own tuning, or have a copy of their tune. I have a 381, but I don’t use a stock PCM, my tuning laptop crashed 10 years ago and I never replaced it. Haven’t driven my car in about 8 years. Been talking about selling it with a few people.
Basically, while this site has 110,000 members, your audience a any point in time is probably 10-15 people if you are lucky.
I hate to send people to other forums, but sometimes there is no other choice. You are more likely to find what you need on ltxtech.com ...... I think they have a repository for tune files, and there are way more hard core tuners/owners than there are here.
Sad but true.

Aaaaaahhhhhh ...... the passing of an Era.
Fred, like you, I haven't really been driving my '97 Z much over the past 4-5 years, but, I did decide to keep the "ole gal" as a sort of Summer/Fun car for a few more years at least, soooooooo ..... the engine "freshen up" turned into a 396 stroker build. Being a poor college student back in the late 60's, I always wanted a 396 Camaro, and now, over fifty (50) years later ...... I have one!
As you suggested, I'll try posting over on ltxtech.com to see if I can "snag" a baseline tune over there. And, Thanks again for all your help with both my current issues.

Okay, here's what I hope will be a simple question, but ..... first a little "background" info. I'm trying to delete all evidence of traction control from my car ....... while keeping my ABS. I've already removed that stepping motor from the throttle cable, and also removed the TCS Hydraulic brake line "modulator" from under my ABS unit. But, with traction control, the first "intervention" at reducing rear wheel spin .... is for the PCM to just to pull ignition timing to reduce engine torque. And there's where I'll focus my question!
I've "roughed in" a tune for my new 396 stroker motor, but whenever I data log it, I do see 5-7 degrees of knock retard associated with rear wheel spin(?) whenever I break the tires loose during acceleration, and ..... I'm ASSUMING that this is a "remnant" of my TCS still trying to reduce engine timing ..... because my wheel speed sensors are essentially "telling" the PCM that we have excessive wheel spin, and so the PCM is still attempting to pull timing????
Soooooo ...... my question is: Is they somewhere in either the ECM Switch, ECM Constants or any other "Table" in TunerCat where we can program out all TCS/PCM commanded knock retard???
