Another VATS issue??

I have a 95 Firehawk, and cant figure out the VATS... The keys were lost in transit when I bought the car and I went to the GM dealer and showed them the pink/reg and they gave me a new key. Well the car cranks.. but Im not getting fuel (pump or injectors, did a fuel pump by pass great and steady Fuel Pressure thanks to SHoebox!! for showing me how) the security light comes on, and like I said it cranks...

So here are some issues.. that came with the car when I bought it and was NEVER told.. The keys were lost by previous owner, the steering column, was swapped out until he could figure out keys...I had a key cut, work in iginition and turns everything on, so I know the key is good guy wise..but could it be the ohms is wrong?? Could the dealer have given me a wrong ohm'd key?? I read the ohms, its 681 ohms, can the dealer tell me by my vin what my ohms is suppose to be?? Im going crazy here.. here is the car I bought... I just went to dealer, and they double checked.. Key is right for car.. he said the iginition switch might be to blame?? could this be right??

http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22494 MANY MORE ISSUES THAN WAS TOLD!!!

Also, I am going to call the guys at PCProgrmmers and just get a new PCM burned, without VATS if all else fails...

Thanks for the imput!!

With the VIN, the dealer should have been able to correctly duplicate the key. However, it seems things have changed on the car since it came from the factory. It might even have a different VATS module. The dealer (or possibly a good locksmith) can use an "interrogator" to tell what resistance is needed when it is otherwise unknown. Or you could try all 15 possible resistance combinations, until you arrive at the correct one.

Im going to frys electronics to get the 15 different resistors here in a hour or so.

I was reading on various forums, that if the key works, meaning the car cranks, I have the right pellet, since I am getting no fuel pressure or injectors, that its more and likely the VATS module, not giving the signal to the fuel saying its OK.

So Im really not solving anything by adding the resistors am I?? I did order a new PCM with VATS disabled today, so by Friday I will have it, but If I can solve it with resistors I still will do it.

Thanks Shoebox!!

With all the unknowns about the car, the TDR could have been bypassed to allow cranking. It still could need the key pellet resistance to satisfy the VATS module.

Programming out the VATS or installing a fuel enable bypass module would allow fuel to the injectors.

So I did a Ohm check, the key signal is getting down to the orange wire under the dash, so key mech is working. So how do I build a fuel enable bypass? I have looked on your site, maybe I missed it. I have the complete service manuals from GM for a 97 SS, so I have been referring to it as well, though this is a 95 Firehawk. I did order a new computer with custom burn, and it will be here Friday or maybe Thursday. But would still be interested in a fuel bypass..

Thanks

Kevin

If your PCM is service # 16188051, I'll just disable your VATS (and anything else) for $20 If you cover shipping both ways.

Have you scanned it for codes?

I don't know how to build one, but you can buy them all day on Ebay for about $25.

Its alive!!

I finally got the Passkey stuff working on my cammed firehawk, she starts up and runs great, now it wont go into any gear. When in park the car wont move, shift into any gear and the car rolls. It has a 2500 stall. The cable that runs from the steering column, located at the bottom of it and is held on by 2 screws, and goes to the shifter, was removed, and I reinstalled, but maybe I didnt do it right?? Also, the car just shifts into gear, even if there is no key in it. Should I have to turn the key at least on, before I can move the gear selector?? Thanks for any help and ShoeBox, I will be making a donation to that awesome website..

Define "wont go into any gear." You have also said "put it into any gear and it rolls." I don't understand.

When car is started and drop into gear, wont engage,,, If car is off, and I drop in to gear it rolls... Also, even if with no key, I can move gear selector..
