Alert! Tunercat users read if you have version 2.24
I just fried two pcms due to this new software update before discovering the below message on the C.A.T.S. tuner website. Please read carefully and update to version 2.25 before using version 2.24. The below message is a direct quote from their web site. I posted it here as I've just found this to hopefully avert any misfortune of my fellow members. I'll report my findings on version 2.25 once I've installed a new ECM.
News and Information:
** Tuner Bug Alert **: We have discovered a bug in the latest build of Version 2.24 of the Tuner program (wintnr.exe date stamp 11/07/09). This bug can cause an incorrect checksum to be written to the calibration file when using the $EE or $EEB ECM Definition File. Programming the car's PCM with a calibration file containing an incorrect checksum will cause the engine not to run and may prevent the PCM from communicating in which case you will not be able to reprogram the PCM. If in the last 4 to 6 weeks you have updated to version 2.24 of the Tuner program or purchased on of our LT1-Tune kits you may have this build installed. (If you recently installed a new installation of the Tuner program using the full Tuner setup program downloaded from the web site you won't have this build installed and won't have this problem. If you suspect that you may have this build installed on your PC please download and install the update to version 2.25 of the Tuner program before doing any further tuning. To install the update, click on the link to download the update file and then double click on this file to install the update. If you have any questions please contact us at tc@tunercat.com. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I got the new ECM in under warranty still by my auto parts store so I didn't actually have to fork out cash this time. Some folks may not be so lucky. However, the good folks from Tunercat actually offered to fix my pcm at no cost to me if I would ship it to them. That being said I really appreciate them having such great service and willing to back any problems in a positive manner that may arise given an honest bug error with the software that would cause this problem.
Continuing on, I put the new ECM in and tuned it using Tunercat version 2.25 and had no glitches. So the new version has been confirmed good.

"Can I run the Tuner program under Windows Vista?
The Tuner and RT Tuner programs can be run under Microsoft Vista. Please follow the following steps to install these programs on a PC running Vista.
1. First you must be logged on as an administrator.
2. In order for the programs to install correctly the installation programs must be run in Compatibility mode. To install the program on a PC running Vista download the setup program for the latest version of the Tuner program from the 'Downloads' page on our web site.
3. After downloading the file unzip the setup program. Before running the setup program right click on it. Select Properties from the list and then click the Compatibility tab. From there, pick the default Windows XP SP2, click on the 'Apply' button and then click on the 'OK' button.
4. Now run the setup program to install the Tuner program.
5. After completing the installation you'll also need to set the Tuner program to run in compatibility mode. To do so, go to your Tuner folder (normally c:\program files\cats\tuner) and locate the Tuner program application file (Wintnr.exe). Right click on this file, select Properties from the list and then click the Compatibility tab. From there, pick the default Windows XP SP2, click on the 'Apply' button and then click on the 'OK' button."
I also set the 2.25 update patch to Compatibility mode just in case it needed it.
BUMP for the post about installing and running Tunercats in Windows Vista and Windows 7!!! I copied it to another site as well so hopefully more people will have an easier time finding the solution in the future.
