ALdl connection problems...Please help..

I have a laptop computer with a card to make a serial port. The card automatically goes onto com 5. I try to hook the laptop up to tuner cat, but it says cable failure. I tried to hook it up to my home computer and got the message: "No respronse from pcm" exactly like that. I am trying to tune my 1995 camaro. This car was a v6 swap. I put a cam xfi 268 hr- 13. It is .570 .565 and the duration @.50 is 218/224. I have not done anything to the computer yet. The car doesn't run by itself and it backfires if I rev it up or when the idle falls and shuts off right away. I get the headers #2, #8 , #3, #5 get very hot and smoke the header wraps after like 10 seconds. I believe i am running too leam and the car is gasping for fuel am I correct? I also have tried adjusting the valve like 4 times already i believe they are correct. What should I do i am so lost from here. If anyone could be a lifesaver i would deeply appretiate it.

I seem to be having a similair problem. I swapped a 1994 LT1 motor in my 94 V6 camaro also. I put a hotcam and 1.6rr in my motor and had the computer programmed by pcmforless. Mine is idling around 500rpm and I have to keep the gas on it for it to continue to run. Mine also backfires. I just received my ALDC cable yesterday and will try and hook up. What program are you using?

i am trying to use tuner cat. I was going to try pcm for less. so that didnt work for you. The connection is driviong me nuts i dont want to pay for computer tuningwhen i have the program. The only thing left i can think of is changing the fuel pump. I thinnk its on a different volume . i have been reading this from other guys.they say from v6 to v8 you have to change the fuel pump. Thats my next try. Also our fuel lines are smaller so i dont know of that will make a difference. I noticed on factory z28's they use a hose instead of the plastic lines and they seem to be bigger. and i used to have a third line on the v6 from the purge canister but now i dont know where to put it.

I've talked to a couple guys and they said you shouldn't have to change the fuel pump but I can't say for sure. Would be nice to know and anyone can answer this for the both of us??

Do you have the right com port selected in tunercat?

Re: ALdl connection problems...Please help..

wouldn't happen to be a newer dell laptop would it? I had purchased one 2 yrs ago, come to find out they were having problems w/ the texas instruments bridge circuitry, found that out on dells forum. sent it back and got a hp.

I'm not saying this is true, just what happened w/ the model I had purchased. Tried usb to serial adapters, several different kinds from cheap to really expensive, tried pcmcia adapters with also no luck.

akmcables has a usb connection now if you wanted to go that route. www.akmcables.com

good luck,
Jeff

was visited posts I've been to in the past and came across this one. What aldl cable are you using? If it is a mastach cable, do a search, I had purchased one and it didn't work, but I found out how to make it work flawlessly.

not sure if the aldlcable is setup the same way, but on mine the translator was powered by the serial data port on the laptop, my laptop wasn't supplying the needed voltage, so I pulled power from the aldl port to the regulator on the board, works fine now.

Some people have had tuning problems with the aldlcable.com cable, like here: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388844

But it seems to work for others, which is odd.

Re: ALdl connection problems...Please help..

I don't know how aldl has their boxes setup, but if you can get into it w/o destroying the case I can offer looking at it for you, would just ask that you send along enough money to pay for return shipping and maybe a couple dollars for time/gas. If not, I can still look at it, but will have to mess up the case to get to the circuit, mastach had their lids superglued shut.

I would suggest doing a search and checking to see if changing port settings would help you out before going my route. All I really did was check the board for correct connections, then tested voltage and found my problem.
