A4 with a mind of it's own

I have a question.

This was the first time I've autocrossed with this transmission. Normally I'll start off in first gear and shift manually. This time it was upshifting and downshifting all on it's on, even at full throttle. Rapidly. I finally left it in drive and everything was ok. I want to play with the manual shift tables. I'm assuming that's what Manual Mode means, for those times when it's not in drive???? I do have a 2600 rpm stall in the car but it never did this with the old transmissions and the stall. Of course, it could just be the transmission. One question has to do with downshift points. I don't want it to downshift on it's own. What MPH would I have to enter, 255?? I'm going to try that for the upshift points also. Any opinions??

I believe KICKDOWN mode is where you set your WOT shift points. To shift wot, your tranny has to meet two requirements: rpm and mph. I think you need to set your rpm's for kickdown hot and kickdown normal and your mph in manual mode. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: I meant to say kickdown mode shift points not manual mode. Just checked and I belive that's right now.

Yea, everything works great in drive, all the shift points have been modified, the kickdown points modified and TC lockup and disengage are great. It was only when I dropped it to first (or second) manually, did I have any problem at all. Very strange. It seems that very few people have much if any knowledge they're willing to share about the tramsmission tables. I've sort of had to figure stuff through trial and error.

Here is what I found out last night.

I can run it up to redline in 1st as long as I run about 80% or less throttle. Any more will cause it to shift at 3500-3800 rpm or so even though it's still in first. Then, as soon as you back off the throttle, it downshifts back to first. Sometimes you don't even have to back off the throttle, it just downshifts, upshifts, down****s etc. I hooked to Datamaster and did a transmission scan and everything looks normal, pressure is fine etc. I'm beginning to think it's something internal to the transmission now. In drive, everything is ok.

Steve,
I'm sorry, I didn't get a chance to reply to your email quicker, but from what you're describing, it sounds like it is something tranny related. Did it work fine with the old tranny?

Yea, that's why I believe it's something in the tranny. NEVER buy anything from Performance Automotive Transmission Center (PATC) in Louisiana. NEVER, EVER!!!

Now, the question is, what is it they did?????????
