I know its not an F-body, but I had a question about my '99 Hardtop C5.

Are there any homemade cables/software that I can get to either look at or (better yet) play with the PCM in the thing. I don't want to shell out 500+ for autotap and LS1edit yet...

Depends what you mean by "play with.....". AutoTap now sells OBD-II software specific to the LS1 family of engines that allows you not only to "read" hundreds of parameters from the PCM, but to temporarily alter the PCM tables. I woud assume that this means it can only "alter" the settings while ATap is attached, not permanently. I believe the list price is around $355.
