I just got my LT1 engine/trans combo for my 91 Camaro upgrade. I want to verify what year the computer is so I will just know for sure what it is. It is suppose to be a 96 which would indicate obdII. Since I have no experience with LT1 yet, I really wouldn't know. Anyway the service number is:

16214399 with program code BSCY

Also do these computer mount in the engine compartment or inside the car.

Yes according to that Service# that is an 96-97 PCM. And the PCM mounts in the engine compartment.Passenger side in between the firewall and wheel well!
