95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
my 95 z28 has the 16 pin obd2 port..
but the computer is obd1
I have a scanner that will read both.
but.It needs a special cable to adapt it.
I have seen the wire jumper trick to read codes on a newer scanner
..so what I am thinking is..
could I pull out the wires on the back of my 16 pin connector on mmy car and move them to match w/ the 16 pin on my scanner.
the scanner is the bluepoint microscan
thanks in advance for any help

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
it appears to me like the wires on my 16 pin in the car match up w/ the later obd2 connections.
but i still can not get my scanner to read anything off my car
what am i not seeing ?

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
Are you saying that the wiring to your 95's 16-pin ALDL connector does not match the 95 LT1 pinout shown in Shoebox's link?
You indicate your scanner will read "both" (OBD-I and OBD-II). Hence, it must have a cable with a 12-pin OBD-I connector. Correct? If it does, have you tried hooking it up using jumper wires, as shown in Shoebox's photograph?

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
I'll try to explain..
my car is a 95
has obd1 computer...BUT has obd2 connector port.
my scanner will read obd2. AND
obd1 w/ a 130 dollar adapter it will hook up to the obd1 type port.
and going that route i would still need to do the jumper wire trick from A-5 and M-9
what I am trying to do is not have to buy the cable cause I would STILL need to jump the wires
me in my trying to keep things simple thought there must be a way that I can switch the wires on my car around to match the obd2 connector on my scanner.
I did notice if I jump pin 9 to pin 6 I can turn on the fuel pump.
shbox diagram shows pin 6 to be output field service...
guessing I need to look at a complete car harness diagram at some point.

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
If you have a scanner that is capable of reading OBD-I and has the 16 pin cable included, it typically should work without any adaptation.
What I find for the Bluepoint Microscan says it only supports OBD-II protocols. You might want to check the manual for your particular model. $130 for an adapter is awful pricey.

update
xnap on dealer I bought my scanner from tells me ..it should just plug in and read the codes.
no adapter needed since I do already have the 16 pin obd2 connector in the car.
BUT still it wont read it
I got a tech support phone number for the new scanner..
left a message for them.
Hoping they call on monday morning..
stay tuned....same bat time.same bat channel

Yea, I'm not getting any readings from my OBD1 And OBD2 scanner. Scanner can not connect on my 95 Z. I tried the 16 pin first, and then the 12 pin. I even ran two jumpers wires to the 12 pin and it wouldn't scan. My Service eng light comes on after driving for 20miles or so, then goes back off after 4-5 miles. I don't know how to get the thing to work.

snapon tech line tells me...my microscan pro will do obd1..BUT it will only do the abs codes on my 95 z28.
they tell me it has a differant protocal.
so...I guess it's ..get a laptop and cable , time
then...maybe i can figure out why my car will not shift to second if i keep my foot planted to the floor on the acellerator...
if i let of the slightest..it will shift to second..
when driven at other than full throdel it shifts fine..
although it is a bit sharp 1-2

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
sounds like pressure leaks inside the trans. speciffically in the 1-2 accumulator or in the servo on the side. if neither checks out the trans is most likely worn and will need a rebuild. I'd look at those two things first though.

The Snap-On website indicates:
The "adapter" is actually a set of 5 connectors for various manufacturers for $109:

The 94 and the 95 have the exact same protocol. That scanner should work on your 95. I supsect that the Snap-On "Tech" line may be confusing your 95 F-Body PCM with the 95 Y-Body PCM, which is an OBD-1.5 setup.
MICROSCAN Specifications
•Covers all ten modes of OBD-II. Read and clear codes, view live data, emissions readiness, freeze frame, O2 sensor, pending & permanent codes, onboard monitors.
•Live data – Display any two PIDs side-by-side in graph mode. Up to 6 in digital mode.
•Cursors show exact values at any point on graph to see precise results over time.
•Troubleshooter code tip database saves repair time.
•Enhanced engine coverage for GM, Ford, Chrysler (MICROSCAN PRO; Non-UDS protocol vehicles).
•ABS codes – read and clear for GM, Ford, Chrysler on ABS systems using Global protocols (MICROSCAN PRO).
•OBD-I codes for GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota (MICROSCAN PRO with optional adapters).
•OBD-II plug & play operation – MICROSCAN automatically powers up and displays codes in as little as ten seconds.
•Record and playback 64-frame data files.

Re: 95z28 16pin to 12 pin conversion
i used the search thing and and not saying i know everything. but from what i see this is what you need.
http://www.aldlcable.com/sc/details.asp?item=aldlobd2u
its what im getting. yea i would like a scanner that can do both also like im assuming you did too. but from what i read for a little while now the easiest way to scan a 95z is that. but gl with all that.
