95 Z-28 Trouble code 16 Dist. Ign. System?

I have a distributor Ignition System (low resolution pulse) in my pcm memory. I need to A know oif this code means dead or dieing optispark and B. how do I clear codes so I know which new ones pop up first using my scanmaster. the scanmaster tells codes but not when and if they are ongoing so I am going to clear the codes and try again. Anyone?

DTC 16 means the PCM can not find the low resolution pulse pattern from the Optispark distributor. If the engine is running, it is a "stored" code, because if it was an "active" code, the PCM would shut down the fuel system (pump and injectors) and the engine would not run.

This isn't an unusual code to find. Clear it and see how quickly it comes back. If it comes back, it could be a problem with the harness connector for the Opti. They sometimes corrode, causing signal problems.

You can not clear codes with the Scanmaster, and you are correct, it does not distinguish between "active" and "stored" codes. To clear the codes from the PCM, pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds. In 95, they moved that fuse to the underhood box. When you clear the PCM, you will also clear the long term fuel corrections.

I will clear everything and see what happens. thanks injuneer. going to go do that and finish my radio install right now and will post results later of new codes that are thrown.
