Does PCMFORLESS lock the PCM?
Does PCMFORLESS lock the PCM?
After swapping to a Yank SS3600 I was thinking about getting Tunercats and trying my hand at setting up the shift tables where I'd like them to be. However, before I do I would like to mak sure that I can actually tune this PCM. Does anyone know if Bryan locks his PCM's? Thanks!
well.
A. I didn't know they had a read-protect byte on the chip... so I've never heard of anyone being able to lock it out of being read... edited...and then re-written to the PCM
B. If there was a wrote-protect option, it would by its very nature be hardware alterable, and I've never heard of that on these either
C. I used to have one from PCM4Less, and I was able to read and write it back after changes just fine.

Ed Wright has been locking his tunes for years (so yes, they can be locked in some fashion).

He was one of the people tuning cars before most anyone else. Locking the tune has been a controversial issue.

Interesting... Thanks for sharing. As far as I know none of the commercially available software packages allow for locking the LT1 PCM, Ed must have some proprietary software.
A few customers asked whether we lock the tunes or not with the GT Tuner (we do not). Agreed it is a somewhat controversial issue - on one hand the tuner wants to protect his/her IP, on another its not his/her PCM to lock.
