1997 camaro odometer question

My buddy has a 1997 camaro z28. He has been having problems with it lately and was told he needs a new computer. His question is: if he was to change his computer out, would that affect what his odometer is reading. He is worried that if he changes his computer it will show more miles than he really has on his car. Of course if i was him i would worry to, his car only has 89,000 miles on it. Oh yeah, if you dont already know his 97 has the digital odometer in it. Thanks

He will be fine, I just swapped my obd2 PCM for a obd1 PCM and my car odometer was not effected. I think the odometer is controlled by the BCM or it is a stand alone module in the cluster, but i am not 100% sure maybe someone could correct me if i am wrong.......But i do know that my car still reads 80,000 miles after the PCM swap.

The odometer will not be affected the mileage is stored in the cluster.
Why does he need a new PCM?
