What do you think about.....
I am still in the building stage of my 383 stroker. So far I have bought a few things and I need some opinions on this cam, but this is what I have so far: Aluminum Canfield 220cc intake runner heads, Port matched Victor Jr. Intake and this next week I will have my hands on a Demon 850 carb with mechanical secondaries. I plan on having a Callies dragonslayer crank with Oliver rods and JE pistons for an 11:1 Compression Ratio. (I hope this enough info) Anyway, I have a friend with this cam he says he'll sell me for real cheap. It's a custom grind solid roller cam with 243* duration .595/.595 lift (1.6 Rockers) a 110 LSA and a 104 Intake centerline. According to DD2000 this combination will produce around 570 hp at 6500 rmp. What kind of Idle can be expected with this cam ? What about vacuum for power brakes ? I have a built TH350 with a 3500 stall converter and 4.10 rear gears in a 12 bolt posi, how "streetable" would this cam be ? I mean i want to cruise (bash imports and F**d's)) it on weekends, drive it to work once in a while (I know gas hog
), and still be a monster at the track. I will also be spraying a 'lil juice at the track too, but nothing outrageous, probably 200 shot at the most.
Any opinions on ANY of this would be MOST appreciated as I am no expert in this field. I do know enough to get me by though
Oh, and sorry for the long post......

PS....Moderators, please move this to the Advanced Tech board if you think that is where it belongs.....I wasn't sure where to post it.

Welcome to CZ28. You need to know what you want the engine for. Do you want high HP in the high RPM's or more torque/driveability in the low RPM's? For an everyday driver I wouldn't want a cam I had to get to 4-5k before I had any power. A lot of people will cam so large for full power at high RPM that it makes for a poor streetable car with terrible gas milage. I'm not sure on the cam you will need but sounds like you will need a vacume tank for your brakes for a large cam. I had one from Summitracing.com that was cheap and worked real well on my '80Z I had put a big cam in. A must when you loose vacume at idle. Later>>>>>>>

Your best bet on a cam would be to get all your info gathered about your car(intake, carb, converter, rear gear, compression, intended use, max rpm ect ect) and call one of the Cam manufacturers(or go to there web site and fill out there info card out). They will be able to give you an exact match to what you want.
PS I run a cam now thats a .600/.600 242/250 duration ground on a 106. Im running a 4000 rpm GER converter with 4.56's out back. The cam is not the most streetable thing but will pull to 7000 no problem. Its a solid roller in a 355.

Z-Attitude.... Thanks for the warm welcome
and the info, its appreciated !
BigBadBowtie....From what i have read in the Advanced Tech forum and heard from others as well is that if you want specific questions answered to their (cam manufacturers) cams, (ie. can this cam be ground on a 1xx LSA) then the cam manufacturers are the best place to go. But if you need the info like what I need, it's best to talk to someone at a race shop or the people like on this board.
So to the both of you, or anyone else for that matter, do you have any idea about how this cam would sound, or behave while on the street ? Basicly, i would like to know the kind of info that DD2000 cant give me.
Oh also, not for sure exactly how accurate DD2000 is but, according to the program the power would really start to com on at about 3000 - 3500 and the torque a little lower than that. This is kinda the reason that I was thinking it might be a good cam to accompany my 3500 converter.
Thanks for the reply's and please keep them coming. Like I said, ANY info is better than NO info

Looks good to me. With 243 deg. duration @0.050", the fact you're running a great set of heads, that you have 11:1 compression, 3500 stall and a 4.10 gear out back - looks to me like this cam will work great.
When you're asking about 'streetability', remember the rest of your combo is going to dicate what cam you run. Your combo is already well-beyond what I would term a daily-driver effort, due to the compression, stall & rear gear.
You have a lot of compression for pump fuel, so that cam's tight 110 lobe sep will help bleed off cyl. pressure down low, just where you're going to need it (less cyl pres). Also the big converter and gears should work just about perfect for that 243 duration, and the 850 Demon carb is a good match. This engine is going to be an animal, imo.
Overall, I think that cam will work just about prime in your combo.

Dave........Thank you very much for that response, that is what I was lookin for. As far as a daily driver, it's not going to be that.
I was thinking more along the lines of a weekend warrior, or something to take to the cruise strip once in a while and even the drag track a few times during the good weather. Thanks again,
