? on tunning Q-jet

I've got a Q-jet on a 350 (78') and I've tryied adjusting it a couple times and rebuilt it, and can't get it to keep from dieing out a couple seconds after starting it. I normaly have to start it two sometime three time when the engine is cold. And it doesn't matter if its 30 or 70 degrees out. Any ideas, could it not be the carb maybe timming a little off.
Thanks for any help,

I been playing with the fast idle screw. I think to adjust the choke I have to bend the linkage. Should I adjust it to get more air or fuel?

Along with paying carefull attention to the choke settings, check the choke pull-off diaphram. Seems like nearly every Q-jet I rebuilt had a bad diaphram. This is supposed to pull the choke open a little bit as soon as the engine starts. If it is bad, the choke stays closed and ..um.. chokes the engine!

Mine doesn't have a vacume diafram, it has the older choke with a thermostat bolted to the intake, not a electric choke. Is there a kit to convert it to electric choke?

yes there is a conversion kit but you should be able to adjust the choke by lossening the 3 screws and rotating the housing.
