Still problems

Well I took my 67 bird into the shop because it was draining the battery when the car was off. They told me they fixed a short and changed the voltage regulator. My interior lights work now so i'm guessing that had to do with the short because they never worked before. I went out to start it to go to school this morning and it was almost dead again. Had to jump it off. It has new battery and new alternator. I went ahead and took out my stereo today to see if maybe it was pulling some extra current. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check. Ive had the car 2 months and it was fine up until 2 weeks ago.
Thanks Sean

I had a voltage regulator that was causing my battery to drain overnight. After I had replaced it a cell went bad in my battery making it drain. You might want to disconnect the battery and leave it sit overnight and see if the battery drains it self. If not, hook a current meter from the battery to the positive lead and see how much current it is drawing then start disconnecting different items like the alt. and fuses to see which one makes the most change. If you have a newer stereo there will be a slight current draw so that it can keep its memory. Also if you have a theft alarm that might also be drawing current. Just a few ideas, hope this helps.

Well I just got home from class and went to start it up and it was fine. I guess it may have been the radio draining it for the memory. I guess I ll wait till tomorrow and see if it starts up again then. This will suck if I can't have a radio in the car but I guess thats better then not having the car.

I do not think it's your stereo draining your bat. I have a new radio + car alarm on my 72 and it can sit for 2 weeks and still start. I would look elsewhere..Tim

do you have a voltmeter? If not u can always just test the alternator output with a wire tester, make sure its working ok. I think the 100 watt 1 wire alternators are worth 90 bucks if u wana get one.

I had some major eletrical problems forever, my car would constantly die in the morning, replaced the batt, alternator twice etc... found out that it was a few loose wires in the distributor, lol.

You must have had someone that knew what he was doing when he installed your equipment or you knew what you were doing. I just got finished fixing a problem with a ford truck that was draining the battery. Who ever installed the alarm pinched the power wire in an interior body panel and it was causing a slow drain on the battery. I was removing the panel and it made full contact and started to smoke (an easy way to find the problem ). We disconnected the lead and it hasen't had a problem since. Just because it is new doesn't mean it can't be the problem.

Well I drove it to school today and it was fine. So I guess either the radio is pulling to much current when off or my wiring wasn't very good. Im going to try putting it back in with using different power leads now that I know its the problem. Hopefully it was the wiring and not the cd player.
