Ive got a 68 camaro w/ a 350 in it. I am trying to put in a new steering box after my old one locked up several times in bad situations. I took off the nut that attached the box to the pitman arm, 3 mounting bolts, the bolt that holds the clamp on the splined shaft to the column. The box wiggles but it doesnt want to take a direction out of the engine compartment. Has anyone done this project before with the engine in? If you have any suggestions on what to do next I would really appreciate it.

 

Rather than try to remove the steering shaft at the spline connection, remove the two bolts at the rag joint in the steering shaft. I think that will come apart more ealisy
