Other then the vin and cowl tag on a Second gen car 78 TA is there any other stammped markings or identifiers ?

The reason I ask is this I am working on a 78 pontiac Trans am the vin came back from PHS as a black on black 400 ta and the cowl tag seems to match that with paint codes 19r and 19L

which I believe show black on black 78 ta and thats how it is today ,,, however when stripping it down to rollng chasis ..most of interior was painted black over red ,, ill chack that up to replacement but the firewall and behind dash , floor pans , behind door latch is all White so im starting to believe this was a white with red interror car that was redone in black,... and what also bugs me is the vin plate was held in by 2 shinny new screws under the dash pad... so too make a long story short is there any where i can look other then vin/ cowl tag to verify exactly what this is

A couple of places you might check are on the engine and transmission, which should be VIN stamped. Don't know for sure about a TH350 auto T/A, but a Super-T10 4-speed trans will definitely have a partial VIN stamp that matches the last six digits of the VIN. If you find an engine or trans VIN stamp that matches the car's VIN, you should be fairly confident that the VIN/cowl tag are legitimate. If they don't match, it's no guarantee that the VIN/cowl tag are bogus, since there's always the possiblilty that the drivetrain has been replaced at some point during the car's life.
