Poncho engine help needed
I am well versed in chevy engines mechanicals, but I do not know much about the internals of a Pontiac engine.
I have my Sister's car in my garage that I need to get running for her, a restored 1966 GTO. It has been in storage for 6 years without being started in all that time
My dad built it, and had just finished it before he passed away, the car has been stored ever since (he left it to my sis)
Anyway I need to know the best way to get it started after it having sat for so long. I know I need to pre oil it. Can I use a Chevy pre oiler shaft assembly to do this, will it fit? Also, what is the best way to lube the cylinders above the rings? Also the coolant had not been drained, system is still full. What is the best stuff to use to flush the cooling system to get out any rust and scale that might be in there?(had 50/50 mix the whole time) I am afraid of rust in the block's water jackets plugging the radiator after it gets started. Also the gas was never ran out of the carb (Carter AFB Comp Series)
Oh, by the way, the engine in the GTO is a '74 400 from a Gran Prix and has GTO Ram Air IV heads if any of this helps. Like I said I know little of Pontiac engines. Once I get this running my Sister is going to drive it back to her place in Chicago, So I need to do this right. It will be a 2-2.5 hour drive for her. I need to make sure this is done right, I can't stress this enough.
Yes, the car should have never been left in storage in this condition, but, after our Dad passed away, we just didn't want to touch the car, we wanted to leave it as he left it. Well my Sis is out of college now and has a job and a house and she wants it at her new place. Any tips and help in helping me resurect this great beast would be appreciated.

K&N air filter, SLP LoudMouth and the list doesn't go on and on. That's it. But it's still fast and really loud

Was the engine ever started and broken in or was it rebuilt and then put away without ever starting?
As for the carb, that's a guaranteed must-rebuild situation with the old gas sitting it in for years.

My dad bought the car in pieces, literally. Everything was in boxes and he had to set the body on the frame to get it home, but the engine was already done and mounted in the frame when he bought it, it looked clean, but didn't have that fresh look to it. That is what I'm basing my opinion on.
I think your best bet would be to call a machine shop and ask for very detailed instructions on what to do. Don't want to take any chances.
