Is my BBC a freak?
I can't find this casting number in ANY of the books or online. I se things that are close in number, but miles apart in application, so I can't even make assumptions from that.
My number is 14015449
I have found 14015443 which is a 4 bolt main MK IV block from 87-90 trucks or motorhomes, and 14015445 which is 78-90 2 or 4 bolt (no other info listed)
Anyone actually have ANYTHING that shows my casting number?
I accidentally posted this in 3rd gen tech, and basically the response there was "Who cares?" and "Does it matter?" Hopefully you guys have a little more than that.
it matters to me. I want to know as much about the block as I can, there are differences between castings and years and while it would have been fine to find out it's just a standard MK IV block, the fact that it seems to not be on ANY casting number list has me curious.
Not to mention, while planning a build up for this winter, I'd like to know wat I am starting with so I can begin accumulating parts while I'm still driving the car.
Yes it's fast, it's not super loud, but the Hooker headers and Flowmasters give it a nice rumble.
The heads I already know about, truck heads. Which probably means peanut ports. And that's how it acts. I can make earth crushing power up to about 5k rpm and it falls off hard. Burnouts are best accomplished in 2nd gear, as doing a 1st gear burnout puts you at the redline faster than you can shift the gears. But I have Merlin heads on teh way, so no worries there.
I can understand why it doesn't matter to many people, but to me, I like the research. I'd like to know ahead of time if it is a 2 or 4 bolt block without having to pull the pan. Since it is an odd number, I'd like to know if it has any other oddities I should plan around. Siamese bores? Bowtie Block? Boat Anchor? Tall deck? Short deck? Replacement block? Who knows?
The "desktop buildup" of the engine is one third of the fun
Anyone else have info that might be useful besides "who cares?"

Are you absolutely certain it's 14015449 and not 14015445? I've found a few references to 1401544, such as here: http://www.teufert.net/bbchevy/bbcast.htm where it mentions that it is also sometimes refered to as 14015445. But nothing anywhere seems to point to 14015449.
I bet that 9 is actually a 3

Looks like the last casting number may be a 3 afterall, but the numbers are smaller than normal, probably due to the number of digits, so I am not 100% positive.
I did find this engine code on the ledge above the timing cover: T0912AKX
I had previously been looking on the ledge behind the alternator on the passenger side of the block to get those other numbers.
Any help with the newly discovered code? I have found three references, two of them are for mid/late 70s 427 truck blocks, the third is a 1986 454. Using my casting number as a clue, I would say the latter is probably it. Make sense to you guys?
