Points ignition specs

I have a BB 396 with the points ignition on it. I was wondering if anyone would know the specs for it or could point me to the direction to go to find out. I would like to know the the breaker gap should be and how do I set the Dwell? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Points ignition specs

I set it with a feeler gage while it's on a peak. 19 thousands. I have a dwell meter somewhere, but I never bother with it.

Re: Points ignition specs

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'll try that. I don't think mine is set right because my timing is off and I can't adjust it to where it should be. Hopefully that's my problem.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Points ignition specs

I adjusted the points to .019 thousands and it runs so much better and more responsive. When I was checking it before it wasn't opening hardly at all. I couldn't get my .008 thousands feeler gauge between the breaker gap so who know's what it really was at. I'm supprised the car was running at all. Thanks angel for you help.

Thanks,
Ryan
