Pistons are too stiff on the rods?

I'm rebuilding my 'birds Pontiac 400.. got a call from the Machine shop. They said my pistons were too stiff on the rods? Now, that engine has been apart and sitting in my shop for a few months... is that what caused this? I've just never heard of this before, and they are charging me $14.00 a piston (11.50USD) to press them off, with the possiblity that a few might break? Has this happend to anyone?

Yup happened to me on my 350 chevy I built for my buick,It ended up it was the oil they used after they pressed them on.After it had sat for 5 monthes they were super stiff on the rod you almost couldnt rock them with all your strength! The oil coagulates into a glue substance after it dries out,I took and hosed them down with brake cleaning spray and rocked them back and forth at the same time.It all came out in a crusty mess,After that I dipped them in 5w-30 oil and they were like new.
