Need help with starter!

Hey here my sad story. Mid summer I bought a 1979 Camaro. Steal too, 800 bucks for a great car, 305 engine, some what rust but nothing a good welder can fix. So Ihave the car for about two months, l was in the middle of stripping the interior when l went to start it, and nothing. My guess is the starter. However I am somewhat new at car, l want to take the starter off to see if thats the problem and try to clean it out and what not, does any1 know how to take off a starter from a 79 camaro? Thanks in advance!

It could be your starter.. but my guess is that your distributor/cap/coil has gone out. Is it trying to turn over at all? Could be that your battery is dead. My camaro sat in the garage during the cold season and wasn't cranked for a week and the battery died. Try that also. If it is trying to turn over it could be a number of things.

Yah, well if it didn't turn over then it's something to do with the starter.. or that circuit. Most starter repair places can test it... should unbolt from the bottom.

Well, when my battery died it wouldnt even turn over, just clicked a little. Turn the key to the accessories position and see if your radio works fine for a few minutes. If so, it's your starter.

If it doesn't turn over at all I'd be looking at the battery and cables... Test the battery with a voltmeter or take it out and have it tested... If it tests out ok then check the battery cables... Check to see if they're loose... Also, if there's a buildup of corrosion on them, the starter can't draw enough current to turn the engine over... If all that checks out then check the starter... Removing it is pretty easy on those cars... You'll need to remove the shield that covers the torque converter, disconnect the wires from the starter, then just unbolt it and drop it down... Then you can have it tested.
