LT1 in a 2nd Gen?
In my opinion, the performer RPM intake is the way to go. Hood clearance will be an issue. This is the reason for the early 70's LT1 hood scoop. An L88 hood would look cooler on your mod though.
Use a 1972 Monte Carlo big block radiator, its tight, but it will keep it cool on the street. Get it at any parts store.
To get in the 13s use a 3000 stall converter and a 373 gear. Keep your 350 turbo trans.
Use the 70s LT1 cam 495 lift @ .050". You'll need at least 11 to 1 compresion. Dart sportsman heads will get it, cheep and easy.
Keep it under 5500 RPM and the two bolt sould be fine.

I have Vortecs and the RPM intake on my '77 Z, and I am currently running without an aircleaner (not a daily driver), because I cannot fit even the narrowest element under my hood. Vortec RPM intakes sit up 3/8-1/2" higher than all the other RPM intakes. A fact I wish I was aware of beforehand. So a cowl hood will be in my future, as much as I hate to take off my original paint stocker.
You guys with the '78-'81 cars can cut a bigger hole in your hood and be okay, due to the hood scoop. The '80-'81 cars have it made, with the factory air induction.
