kid needs help wit SB
Re: kid needs help wit SB
thats def what was goin on then
i had a holly 650cfm on it that i got from a friend for 100 bucks and he said it was new jsut was sitting in the box for a while
I was told that the holly was junk and i should get the edlebrock
good thing i still have the holly (ill test if it works now that the pressure is lowered becasue it had the same problems as the edlebrock had.)
so if anyone can figure this high rpm idle in park and low idle in drive and power brakes on plz help me
THX ALL

Re: kid needs help wit SB
I would try setting the idle to 950-1,000 or so in park and keep dropping it in gear untill you get it to idle nicely around 700 or so depending on how big your cam is...specs would help us.
If it still idles screwy in drive or stalls after a little while it might need new plugs put in it. Sometimes running a motor pig rich for a while and never "cleaning off" the plugs will foul them beyond recognition.
Hope this helps

I thought i had it running great. I would put it in drive nad it would not stall, (reverse did but the motor was a little cold)
Then i put the vacum line back in from my distributor to the carb...(i think it is timing advencement)
The second i did that the idle speed was 2100RPM
The timeing was at about 60-70 degrees advanced
I Shut it down asap
Then i thought since it had 2 spots on the carb for this line in the front that i might have had the plug on the wring one and the line on the wrong one.....so i swiched em
at this point the timing was around 20-25 degrees advanced, the idle was very rough at 1100RPM, and would stumble but never stall in Park or drive
IT ran nice with the damn thing out
I know you can adjust it under the cap but i dont think i am up to it (AKA inexperianced)
wut u guys think? I have a friend of mine who used to drag a old vette in the 9's and had a 68, 69, and a chevelle at one point that he built coming to take a look at my ride to figure out what is screwed up
RECAP:
ran great with no line to distributor
CRAZY running with it hooked up to one
Some what f'ed up hooked up to the other
Never been driven with changes, just trying to fix idle right now

Re: kid needs help wit SB
Thinking more about it, you probably had the distributor plugged in where the brake booster goes, so the brake booster was probably on the low side of the carb. You rob vacuum from there, by hitting the brakes for example, and it's stall city. Just something you might wanna look at

The line in the front is the PCV
thx
Re: kid needs help wit SB
The distributor plugs into the one on the left of your picture, so passenger side of the car. I just looked at mine, PCV in the center, distributor on the passenger side, and a rubber cap on the driver side. Make sure you cap off any non-used vaccum ports, obviously.
Re: kid needs help wit SB
So whats the verdict, this thing running good yet??
BTW,I went to your car domain site yesterday and checked out your 67,that thing looks sweet man...Congradulations.
Now we just gotta get it running as good as it looks

Re: kid needs help wit SB
sorry i had drills at the firehouse after school today so i couldn't work on it
It runs okay.... i think i just got to dial it in a little more and ill be okay
where are you guys gettin vacume for your power brakes. There was a plug on the back of my intake for what i thought was the brakes. (guess ill put another pic up tomarrow on that cardomain)
is their any other place that you guys have them hooked up 2
thx all
and thx a lot for all the pos. commits on the camaro. I do have to admit the pics dont show all lol. It was in a garage in upstate NY since 97 (right after paint job) and it has it's share of nicks and dings as well as a few scraches. Since i am hoping to drive this car as much as humanly possible it is not a big deal. (need another job for gass money....im sure u guys are in the same situation)
just for ur info, the ride has yet to seen the road. I have never drove it yet. For all i know it has 2hp or a 1000hp.
by the way u guys made my week with all ur help and comments (TONS of rice here, mommy and daddy buys them 50k rides and 20k for parts) Most kids around here dont understand there is no replacement for displacement. Nice to talk to real car guys for a change.

Re: kid needs help wit SB
in recap:
might need new plugs
the advance goes on passenger side not driver
timing can still be the main issue
what is a good timing range for my motor (specs for the most part are in the car domain site) (327 chevy)

Yes, the plug in the intake manifold is for the booster. I'm assuming you had the timing advance plugged into the driver side, huh? If the timing still freaks out when plugged into vacuum, check the timing advance gizmo in the distributor. Sometimes they stick.
