Chevy 400 and Pontiac 400
Chevy 400 and Pontiac 400
I have found a late 70s Firebird(not sure on the year exactly). The body is perfect but no motor. They told me it had a 400 in it before.I know where I can find a 400 out of a Chevy. Is the Chevy and Pontiac 400 the same thing?
It shouldn't be hard at all to find an engine for that car. All Pontiac V8's 326 CI or bigger will bolt up to your tranny. Including a 455
However, those are pretty hard to find now days, the Pontiac 350 and 400 are the easiest to find, since they were the base engines in "everything" pontiac made in the seventies. You can probably get a 350 for next to nothing (everyone always swaps them out for 400's) I couldn't even give away my 350 when I swapped engines.
But if you're looking to go fast, pay the couple hundred bucks for the 400.... it has a ton of potential.
