Chambered Exhaust?

Can anyone tell me what the benefit of the chambered exhaust was on 69 Z's? More power? More noise?

More noise! The one I removed off my ZL-1 clone was crimped down to less than 1.5" i.d. in several areas; I would doubt it made more power. Might make people think it did though with all the racket they make!

The sound was so embarrassing to me that I never even drove the car around the block. Loaded it off the trailer and straight into my shop to remove it. They sound like a boat.

I've heard several 69 Z28's with the chambered exhaust and they sounded pretty good. It's not really the best exhaust system but if you go with an aftermarket 2-1/4 or 2-1/2" chambered exhaust you probably won't lose power. If you're worried about keeping the car original then check out the Gardner Exhaust deep tone dual exhaust, it sounds awesome on the 69 Z28.
