carburetor

Demon 650 or Edelbrock Performer 600? I have a 71 Camaro, 350 block w/ K+N filter, complete MSD ignition, Dynomax Headers and mufflers, will soon be adding Edelbrock Air Gap (maybe weiand), Edelbrock Performer Heads, and Performer cams. Which carb would be better? Thanks.

I have an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, and it does decently. I've never even made any adjustments to it, I just took it out of the box and bolted it on. I imagine a well tuned Holley or Demon would be best, though. I've never gotten one because I know nothing about tuning carburetors.

I've ran Edelbrock and Holley.

The Edel will do the job, but if you want performance go Demon or Holley Street avenger.

I was never happy with the lack of performance from my performer carb.

Also take a look at some Votec heads unless you're set on aluminum. Even then look at AFR, and Trickflow. As for cam, you can do the whole Edel power package, but when you decide which intake, heads and carb you want you'd still be better off calling comp cams cam line to get their suggestion. To me Edelbrock seems more expensive on everything. It may be cheaper to go this route. Holley also has a power package with matching heads, cam, intake, etc.

I would take a QJet (and have- I've used all, but still use the QJet)over any of them for a street motor. You'll get better primary response, more precise metering, and better fuel economy.
They aren't hard to tweak, either.

Performer cam is small. You can do better for street performance. What's the current compression ratio on the motor? Perhaps I could suggest a better (but similarly priced) combo.

Ya, Q-jet from Jet is a good buy. Didn't know if he had a square or spread bore intake, but I looked again and he is looking at them.
